Best point and shoot camera 2020

The advent of point and shoot camera by George Eastman’s shaped the photography industry. The camera was bulky but was bursting with energy. According to them, the 3-by-4-by-61/2 inch camera was the best technology at the time. 1 Now, in the contemporary world, things have changed. The digital point and shoot cameras come either as compact or with large sensor compact. In the family of digital cameras, we also have mirrorless cameras and DSLR cameras.

As a beginner photographer, you might be wondering what point and shoot camera are. To clear the air, it is a still camera with an inbuilt flash unit and automatic setting systems. 2 They are stylish, small in size, and suitable for simple operation. They are good for street food photography, YouTuber,  as well as wedding. Some of the attractive features include GPS, face-detection, and smile detection, to mention a few.

The difference between compact cameras and DSLR cameras?

A DSLR (digital single-lens reflex camera) allows creativity and space to play with manual options. DSLR cameras deliver the excellent image quality and performance speed.  Generally, they are big in size and higher in cost. Additionally, you need some know-how to maneuver around the settings and fine-tune it.

When you upgrade to a professional photographer, you’ll probably prefer aperture mode. It is one of the best shooting modes. After manually choosing aperture value, the camera then picks preferred shutter speed and ISO value. 3

Lastly, DSLR cameras use a wide variety of interchangeable lenses. It allows you to get effects that suit your test, for instance, blurring background.

Are points and shoot cameras better than Smartphone or iPhone

The Smartphone is the new entry-level camera, getting better and better every year. It has come with an adverse side effect that promises to dwindle camera sales. However, compact cameras are not fading into oblivion, yet, they have advance features.

Handy snappers prefer Smartphone camera because of;

  • Convenience. Always with you.
  • Sharing. Easily connects to the internet and BT Wi-Fi hotspot.
  • Image editing. You can add filters; add colors, and much more from many photography apps.

Point and shoot cameras lead when it comes to:

  • Picture quality. Photographs from a Smartphone can be amazing, but still not versatile compared to compact cameras. Compact cameras thrive in low or difficult lighting. They have larger sensors and more powerful flash. You can zoom and get a quality output that a Smartphone cannot reach. Smartphone slim design limits lens quality and sensor size.
  • Lens versatility. They have a true optical zoom lens capability, which enables them to reach whooping magnification.
  • Battery. 300-500 photographs per charge is a good deal.
  • Cost. With less than $100, you are good to enjoy your photography world.

Do you still need a point and shoot camera

They deliver excellent work when you need still photos, action shots, portraits, and videos. Additionally, they have options for microphone jack where you can record quality audio.

Because of the slim size, most Smartphone’s comes with little or no optical zoom. The compact camera uses optical zoom lenses enough to bring distant objects closer. Other arsenal includes a variable aperture, dynamic range, large sensor, and flash.

  1. Your review is excellent and detailed. I love photography but don’t want to deal with the complicated buttons found in DSLR. I have an old RX100 model which delivers well. Since it has a crack, I’m still thinking of RX100V.

  2. I was a Nikon Coolpix p950 fun and now own 5 Fuji mirrorless cameras models and lots of lenses including the medium format camera and lenses.
On my last trip to East Africa, I used the Nikon Coolpix s7000 because of the stabilization but used the Coolpix p950 for most other situations.
Coolpix p950 will be perfect for all my normal photos as I travel around the world.

I love Sony RV 100,it is good camera. From my experience as an armature, it has two significant cons. First is the picture quality, which is fantastic and magnificent. Second, the sensor is brilliant in low light conditions.

  4. I was thinking of graduating to bridge, but as it stands now, I see a good compact coming into the market.
